DIY String Art

Sharing is caring!

I love string art!! I had been wanting to try it for quite a while. Then I came across a blog post that really takes you through it step by step.

A Pretty Life walks you through creating a string art masterpiece. There were only a couple of things that I did differently.

One is I painted my board instead of staining it. Not because I don’t like stained wood, but I wanted mine painted gray for the space that it was going. I bought the unfinished wood from Joann’s for less than $5. I bought the red string from there too for less than $2. The craft paint I already had so I didn’t have to buy that. The whole project cost me less than $10.

First I painted my wood and let that dry. My piece of paper with “love” written out was then taped to the wood. Then I started nailing away. This is a great project for small hands, but it’s still doable if you don’t have dainty hands (like me).

Once all of the nails were in I removed the paper. Thank goodness she said to do it before you started stringing because it wasn’t easy. I had to use tweezers to get some of the paper out. No biggie.

Then it was time to string away!

I don’t think my project came out perfect, but it’s perfect for me. A Pretty Life did a great job explaining how to DIY string art. Any flaws with mine were strictly from my execution.

Overall I say thanks to Pinterest and A Pretty Life. I love my string art and I’m excited to try it again.
